We developed and implemented a 1 Credit undergraduate course offering Mental Health First Aid training and certification. MHFA training is proven effective in assisting people through mental health crises and challenges, while early identification and treatment can lessen the impact of mental illness. Understanding a student's own mental illness and knowing how to help another student through a crisis improves retention and satisfaction with the college experience. Offering courses that address personal mental health concerns demonstrates the University's commitment to student well-being. Participants will be able to identify strategies that encourage students to explore their own understanding of mental health disorders and how to help a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants will be able to identify a course that they can recommend to students to enhance student learning about mental health disorders and hope for recovery.
