Using "The Brain" Tool To Create An Identity Mind Map

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The goal of the mind map is to create a graphic description of a student’s identity. I have collected the examples over the last ten years of teaching on line and face-to-face and will share selected mind maps with the permission of each creator. These will show a variety of approaches from hand drawn creations to on-line interactive, flexible, and expandable depictions. The mind map exercise is like the concept map approach with a central theme, branches, and subbranches; but all information in the mind map comes from the students’ own brain as they do a mental inventory of their accomplishments, recall formative experiences, and contemplate how they fit within their current or planned practice or profession. After showing the examples, I plan to demonstrate “The Brain” that will showcase the ease and power of that application. Finally, I plan to provide a template to each of the workshop participants to help them get started on their own mind-map and a link to the on-line application. For those interested in exploring their own identity further, they can expand their creation later at their own convenience or download and use “The Brain” that is available on line at no cost.
